So now you’ve got a few intriguing options for hosting a dessert or dinner concert in your home.
But maybe you’re concerned about doing an event on a weekday? You and your friends do have day jobs or school or soccer games on weekdays. True. So how do you tame the preparation factor for these weekday events?
Here are some tips.
Dessert or dinner or breakfast? Be realistic. Include a meal if you love doing it. And don’t hesitate to make it uber-easy. Slow cooker meal or pasta or salad. Order in if you want to. Do a potluck. Or offer an informal yummy breakfast during the weekend. Or make it even simpler by serving dessert and letting your guests graze and chat. Whatever you choose, just do what feels like fun and avoid saying No to opportunities to host beautiful dessert/dinner concerts just because the food part has you stressed.
Room prep. Again, be realistic. If you cannot prep your mini concert room in less than 3 minutes, you might start saying No to weekday hosting. I would. Remember the genius of the mini concert. The music lasts only 40-45 minutes. Most folks can sit, stand, or hang from the rafters for 45 minutes of compelling music. So you don’t need to turn your living room into a mini concert hall. “Fend for yourself” is what I say to my dessert concert guests when I point to our modest-sized concert room. Our 3 minutes of room prep? We put out floor pillows and move the couch 9 inches!
Invitations and RSVP’s. This is not a regular house concert where you focus on filling 25+ seats and book artists far enough ahead of your friends’ other weekend events. Instead, dessert concerts are a weekday thing (or weekend afternoon) and you can pull one together within a week (even less than 24 hours!) if you do a little advance planning.
How? Stay tuned……
