It was only a year ago that ListeningRoomNetwork developed the “DinnerAndSong” mini concert format and we launched the website DinnerAndSong.com. “DNS” is now solidly embedded in our vocabulary.
And it’s more than just a new factor of speech. DNS has actually produced a paradigm shift here at ListeningRoomNetwork. (LRN is our lovely umbrella for CIYH, DNS, and PeachGigs.com)
I wouldn’t have imagined saying this a year ago, but we have come to the conclusion that DNS is the single most effective way to bring an extraordinary intimate musical experience to people of all ages as well as to support touring artists’ ability to make a living.
For years we felt that this mantle belonged to house concerts. And it did. And we still feel devoted to the success of house concerts everywhere. Just look at our continued efforts to connect hosts and artists through ConcertsInYourHome.
Yet we believe the future of intimate listening room performances will be dominated by the mini concert format which allows just about anyone to host and attend. All while allowing artists to significantly improve their net earnings from touring. These are huge benefits to the listening room world.
I’ll devote the next post to an email thread between ListeningRoomNetwork founder Fran Snyder and one of our member house concert hosts. Fran articulates the benefits of DinnerAndSong in ways that are worth re-visiting as we head into our second year of DNS. His comments are particularly timely as many artists struggle in this economy, and government arts funding for schools and communities is further at risk under the weight of solving our country’s deficit woes.
Please tune in. (And perhaps take this moment to sign up for an RSS feed of this blog.)
