CIYH founder Fran Snyder posed this question on our Facebook page for house concert hosts:
“Your biggest house concert mistake. What was it?”
My favorite response is from J.D. in Washington:
“I should have started doing house concerts 30 years ago.”
My guess is that J.D. didn’t have the opportunity 30 years ago. Probably didn’t know that house concerts existed.
Which really gave me pause.
How many of our current friends, who know nothing about living room concerts, might in 30 years feel the same way J.D. does today? “Sure would have been cool to have started hosting concerts 30 years ago, if only someone had clued me in.”
I can’t imagine being among the millions of people who will never experience a house concert. You, too?
Okay then, what if each of us took ten minutes this weekend, picked up the phone, and encouraged a friend to attend their first house concert soon? And if there are no shows nearby, suggest that they offer a simple DessertAndSong event to get their feet wet.
As invitations go, this one could be a lifelong gift. I’m sure J.D. would agree.
